On Tuesday, May 27, 1447 AH (corresponding to May 27, 2020), the Deanship of Student Affairs organized a remote scientific lecture entitled "Diabetes and Lifestyle: How to Make a Difference Every Day." The lecture was presented by Dr. Munira Al-Jammaz, who holds a PhD in Human Nutrition and a Master's degree in Nutrition Education from the College of Education.

The lecture focused on the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles as an effective means of preventing diabetes. Dr. Al-Jammaz explained the concept of a holistic healthy lifestyle and its pivotal role in reducing the risk of developing this widespread chronic disease.

She also addressed the importance of early intervention upon diagnosis of prediabetes, emphasizing the necessity of making immediate behavioral and dietary modifications to reverse or delay the progression of the disease. She reviewed the latest scientific studies confirming that changing daily habits may be sufficient in many cases to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

In the second part of the lecture, Dr. Munira presented a set of practical strategies for living with diabetes for those diagnosed with the condition. She focused on the concept of "smart nutrition," which relies on choosing foods with a low glycemic index and distributing meals in a way that maintains stable blood sugar levels. She also offered practical advice on appropriate daily exercise, how to read food labels, and how to plan weekly meals.

It is worth noting that this lecture is part of a series of health awareness programs organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs to promote health awareness among university members and empower them to make daily decisions that support their long-term health.
