Yesterday, Tuesday, 4/2/1445 AH, the Deanship of Student Affairs, represented by the Guidance and Counseling Unit, held a distance training course entitled “The Skills Necessary for a Student Social Guidance and Counseling Specialist.”
The course was presented by Ms. Abeer bint Abdullah Al-Joofi, a social worker at the Ministry of Education, and began with the mentor’s relationship with the student, and that it is based on a contract and mutual agreement that must be respected. She stated that the mentor does not accept guidance unless he is confident of his sincere desire to provide assistance and adopt the correct behavior that achieves the desired results. After that, I discussed the qualities and skills of a successful mentor, through which he can convey his experiences to the recipient in the correct way, and that the mentor must be compatible with his students, a good listener to them, able to understand their needs, aware of the nature of their thinking, and has the ability to extract their talents and benefit from their positive energies, And guide them to exploit it for the benefit of themselves and their community.
At the end of the course, Ms. Abeer mentioned that by following these tips, you will be able to improve your skills as a mentor and perform better with your students, allowing them to benefit and achieve the desired goals, God willing.
This course is part of a number of programs offered by the Deanship of Student Affairs to prepare counselors, prepare them, and develop their skills for the benefit of male and female students at the university and its impact on their professional and educational careers.
